Roofing 101
Wondering what goes into a new roof? We’ll walk you through it.
Site prep + worker protection
We take the safety of your home and our crew seriously. To make sure nothing gets broken, we’ll lay down protective material over your deck, outdoor furniture, and windows. Our crew will also install temporary anchor points for harnesses.
Old roof removal
Before we can install a new roof, we have to get rid of your old roof. We’ll do this by removing the old, broken shingles from the ridge (top) of your roof all the way down to the eaves. This part of the process can be a little loud.
Get started
Go from online quote to brand new roof in just a few weeks.
Board replacement
Beneath your shingles, we’ll take a closer look at your roof sheathing––the plywood or plank structure there to protect your roof from water damage and sagging. We’ll replace any damaged or decayed boards, and give you your first three sheets for free.
Drip edge installation
You want to keep water off your roof to prevent damage. To do this, we’ll install a drip edge around your roof’s perimeter, which directs water droplets to the ground or into gutters.
Ice + water
shield
To be extra careful, we’ll install a synthetic underlayment as well as an ice and water shield for added weather protection.

Shingle installation
When we finally install your new shingles, we’re careful with our nailing pattern to ensure they’re straight, all the way across. We also intentionally overlap shingles to give your roof three layers of protection.
Flashing + roof boots
Roof boots cover the pipes on your roof to keep water out during storms. We’ll install new roof boots as we install your shingles to make sure they keep your roof (and home) safe for years to come. We’ll also install step flashing to direct water away from your roof and chimney, and give you the option for lead flashing around your chimney.
Thorough cleanup
Before we leave, we’re sure to leave your home better than we found it. We’ll rake your grass for stray debris, use a magnet roller to collect any loose nails or metal, and get rid of all trash.
